83,000 theocratic facilites?
by average joe ina bethelite was telling me that there are 83,000 theocratic facilities world wide.
he compared that to 35,000 mcdonalds and 21,000 starbucks roughly to show the size of the theocratic organization.
i am not sure where the 83,000 comes from what would he be counting?

Comparing "kingdom" halls and McDonalds "restaurants", the quality of the spiritual or whatever food they serve is comparable. Bad for your health, not worth of your money, in reality not even looking as was advertised, eventually making you feel deceived, etc. -

Love the (original) painting by Munch, seen it in Oslo. First felt the "new world version" with Lett's face on it found by Splash to be more scary, then understood he deserves the pain.

Are the horrendous killings in Paris part of a religious practice?
by clarity inislam is a religion of war, not a religion of peace .
seems there are many religions who do not tolerate other groups.
this statement "islam is a religion of war, not a religion of peace" reminded me of what was said at a watchtower convention in 2013 ....using a chilling example of how they condone dis fellowshipping & the soul killing practice of shunning!

Many religions, not just Islam, and many holy books, not just the Quran, allow extreme interpretations, the easier the more the meaning of those books needs to be interpreted by a small group or class of "learned" individuals, with free discussion restricted or banned. The Spanish Inquisition is a horrifying example of that. Now there is a heated discussion on who to blame for what happened in Paris. However, to prepare a fertile ground for Isis was started, when the nation of Israel was created in 1948 and ever since Israel has had an unreserved support for whatever they do from American christian extremists.
Somehow all this sounds too familiar.

This world is now not only much better for us to live in than just before 1975, it is also much more stable, thanks to global connectedness. It is better to build life for yourself and for your children in this "old system of things", insted of the "new" one that also by looking at the "signs of times" clearly is escaping from us faster than ever. -

Which bible character do you hate the most?
by Bonsai inthe more i think about it, the more i feel an extreme dislike for the apostle paul.
he was on par with hitler in his treatment of the jews before he "saw the light".
he replaced jesus teachings of love and mercy with a more legalistic, pharisaical concept of devotion to god.. any evil person can come to believe in god and worship him if the scales were literally and miraculously removed from his eyes.

Jehovah (NWT) is. For his numerous, brutal crimes against humanity, all those supposedly because of his... name. -

I find fascinating an idea of a God, who asked his People to go to war to complete his already large collection of foreskins. Like collecting stamps. -

The Judges. Even looks like a collection fairy tales. For example, why on earth would someone 2500 years later want to know how many sons riding on how many donkeys one of the judges had? And the same "information" for another judge. -

Is Religion Dying Out? - AWAKE! NOVEMBER 2015
by GrownMidget in"have you given up on organized religion?
in many countries the number of people who describe themselves as not religious is growinga trend that suggests an uncertain future for institutional religion.
some of those lands are shown here.

First impression: The article must be a bad joke. Especially so in many western countries, where the jw religion is dying out as fast as many "wrong" religions. Of course, the society can count on the fact that most readers do not think so they can publish whatever bs. -

How To Test a J.W.'s Loyalty/Stupidity
by The Searcher in"would you do absolutely anything which the governing body instructed you to do?
for example, sell your home and possessions, move in with another witness, and send all your money to the org?".
if 'no', they're showing that they will pick and choose which org directives they will follow.

Since when asked by the society they would lie, and the elders do it even publicly, why not acting against other clear biblical commandments and the basic rules of everyday life. Logically then, they would bow down in front of Satan himself, if needed as a part of the theocratic warfare.

Seems odd that the Bible never mentions Pryamids?
by dropoffyourkeylee indoesn't it seem strange that the bible never mentions the pyramids?
how could someone go to egypt at that time and not even so much as mention the huge monuments?

Russell's pyramid theory appears to fit his interests. Overall, the role of numerology in the plan of ages as "found" by him seems to be even more important than the wt society would like to admit, besides mentioning them in the "history books". After reading CTR's books, based on these and his personal history I have been wondering whether inside him there always was lurking a small skeptic.
After finding the teachings of major churches being against common sense, especially the eternal hellfire, Russell at some point was leaning to freethinkers. Nevertheless, he began searching for his own bible interpretation. Originally a business man, so doing calculations was not that strange for him, he looked for previously unknown possibilities in the bible (and why not since in the bible there are some prophetic visions containing times to look for), mainly tweaking calculations done by others. In addition he also learned about pyramidology, not his invention either.
This way he had three calculations pointing (approximately) to the years 1874 and 1914: one based on the jubilee years, another on the seven ages and the third one on the great pyramid. When all three appeared to be (he managed to make them to be) consistent, he felt he had the evidence he had been searhing for. Could one had been enough for him? Possibly not.
Just one, evidently wrong, calculation is enough for the society today.
